Mark McClusky, President and Founder

Mark McClusky has nearly 30 years of experience in designing strategies to commercialize new products and technologies, developing frameworks for evaluating potential business development projects as part of corporate portfolios, and evaluating operations strategies for both traditional products and new technologies. He has led product commercialization strategy efforts for dozens of emerging technologies.

Mark has advised the world's leading innovators on technology and commercial strategy, including Symbol Technologies, Bristol Meyers Squibb, Kinetico, Owens Corning, Beiersdorf, and Johns Manville.

Before founding Newry, Mark was with New York Consulting Partners and previously was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Nanofilm. He has lectured at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University and has facilitated numerous forums on innovation.

Ms. Siempelkamp has 22 years of consulting experience, principally in commercializing emerging technologies and identifying white-space opportunities to drive research investment. She has served a broad range of clients, including Idexx, Beiersdorf, and Bristol Myers Squibb. Recently, for a manufacturer of advanced materials, Paige led an effort to identify consumer products opportunities and OEM customers by focusing on the roles and requirements of industrial designers. As a result of her work, our client established a new business to pursue the opportunities in consumer durables. For a Fortune 500 technology company, she played a lead role in developing a new business idea generation process, focusing on environmental and social discontinuities to identify investment opportunities in emerging technologies. Paige has planned and facilitated dozens of innovation workshops, bringing together scientists and industry experts in many advanced technologies. For a leading industrial innovator, she developed commercialization and business development education for leaders of emerging high-tech businesses. Paige has assisted several Newry clients on issues of organization development, including assessments of corporate boards of directors.

Before joining Newry in 1998, Paige worked with New York Consulting Partners and William Mercer Consulting.

Steve Trybus, Vice President

Steve is a Vice President and has more than 12 years experience assisting major corporations with product and business growth strategies, M&A, and commercialization of emerging technologies. Steve has served a wide range of corporations including Citgo Petroleum, Eaton Corporation, Flint Ink, EDS, and Moen. Most of his clients are advanced materials and engineered product companies.

Recently, Steve helped an emerging equipment business identify growth opportunities and customer adoption problems across multiple specialty chemical segments. He has assisted several clients in developing acquisition strategies to enter new product markets. He also developed a growth and commercialization strategy for a $600 million technology organization, recommending investment priorities for existing businesses and new technologies.

Before joining Newry in 2003, Steve was a director with VCapital Inc., a venture capital consulting firm and investment bank for emerging technology companies. Previously, he was a consultant in the Strategy Practice of Towers Perrin, a global management consulting firm, and at Tillinghast–Towers Perrin, a risk management consulting firm.

Ellen Beese Young, Vice President

Ellen Beese Young has extensive experience consulting to leading innovators in advanced materials and industrial manufacturers, including  Eaton Corporation, and Parker Hannifin. Much of her work focuses on the commercial potential of emerging technologies—identifying applications and evaluating market opportunities. She has led dozens of product commercialization strategy efforts. For example, she recently led Newry teams in projects including evaluating the commercial opportunity for novel materials in e-reader production, analyzing the Chinese market for high-purity materials and assessing the technical and commercial potential of high-strength carbon nanotube materials for a diversified industrial manufacturer.

Ellen is experienced in developing growth strategies.  For a market leader in advanced electronic building materials and construction, Ellen led the top management team in developing a growth strategy to expand into adjacent markets.

Ms. Young has an MA in Economics from The George Washington University and a BS in Business Economics from Miami University.

Chris McCarthy, Vice President of Finance

Chris McCarthy, Newry's Vice President of Finance and Administration, is responsible for managing the firm's finances, including financial reporting, strategic planning and forecasting, human resources, and firm administration. She has been with Newry since 2004 and has played a major role in supporting the growth of the firm.

Before joining Newry, Ms. McCarthy had 17 years of experience managing the financial operations of several private companies as well as experience in governmental and non-profit accounting operations.

Ms. McCarthy has a BS in Accounting from Miami University and maintains an inactive CPA license in Ohio.

Ted Evans, Director of Business Development

Ted is Director of Business Development and has more than 20 years of global consulting, strategy and operations experience with major corporations. Ted has served and consulted with diverse corporations including Pfizer, IBM, Gulfstream Aerospace, General Motors, Delta Airlines, Chevron, Texaco, British Petroleum, Rexam, International Paper, Steelcase, Nalco Chemical, Sara Lee, and Intel. He has assisted global companies in business strategy, product development, market entry, acquisition, and cost reduction strategies. Ted has also co-led multi-billion dollar strategic sourcing initiatives and negotiations for Fortune 100 companies.

Before joining Newry in 2011, Ted was a Senior Solution Architect for Accenture, a Client Executive for Hewitt Associates, and a Manager at AT Kearney. Before becoming a consultant, Ted was Strategy and Business Development Manager for WW Grainger, the global distribution company. Ted recently dedicated significant time to be the Executive Consulting Director for The Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The international organization engaged and met with world leaders including President Barack Obama to solve human issues and global crises.

Mr. Evans holds an MBA from Case Western Reserve and a BA from Wilberforce University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Mel Furman, Director of Communications

Mel Furman has more than 30 years of management consulting experience in client communications and proposal development, assisting consulting teams in analyzing executive audiences, structuring compelling and logically rigorous presentations, and preparing focused and effective proposals. As Newry's Director of Client Communications, she provides stringent quality controls that have made communications a core capability and competitive advantage for the firm. Before joining Newry, Ms. Furman was a Communications Specialist for McKinsey & Company and taught professional writing at Harvard Business School and University of Massachusetts – Boston.

Ms. Furman has a BA and MA from Simmons College.

Jonathan Fegely, Senior Consultant

Jonathan Fegely's experience in assessing the market potential of emerging technologies has encompassed a variety of industries, including solar thermal energy, specialty chemical manufacturing, and advanced medical imaging and diagnostics. He is highly skilled in market sizing and segmentation, projected growth and adoption timing, customer requirements, competitive intensity, etc. In addition, he has extensive experience in identifying opportunities for advanced materials in adjacent markets and supporting clients' new business development efforts including developing customer relationships, modeling product economics, and estimating addressable market sizes and adoption dynamics. .

Mr. Fegely has a bachelor's degree in Public Policy and Piano Performance from Dickinson College and an MS in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie-Mellon University. Before joining Newry, he worked as a consultant on technology-based economic development.

Karthik Govindarajan, Senior Consultant

Karthik Govindarajan has extensive expertise in a wide range of innovative technologies and materials. He is experienced in identifying and evaluating new market opportunities based on macro trends, customer needs, the competitive landscape, and value drivers in emerging markets. Before joining Newry in 2011, Mr. Govindarajan worked for a major manufacturer where he held several positions encompassing a broad range of efforts and responsibilities, including manufacturing process development and optimization. In addition, he has taught courses in advanced technology at the Somerset County Technical Institute in New Jersey.

Mr. Govindarajan has a BS in Ceramic Science and Engineering, and a PhD in Ceramics and Materials Engineering from Rutgers University. He has an MS in Product Development from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Torrey Babson

Torrey Babson has an extensive consulting background in green energy, including economic analysis and analysis of legislative policy. Mr. Babson joined Newry in June 2011 from GSP Consulting, where he was Government Affairs Manager and Green Economy Director.  He managed the firm's green economy practice and served major corporations on issues of alternative energy technology. He led a number of assessments of economic impact, industry/market size, and regulatory impact. Previously, Mr. Babson worked for two members of the U.S. Congress, supporting their legislative analyses and coordinating corporate and agency efforts on a variety of projects.

Mr. Babson has a BA in Political Science from Wheaton College and an MS in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

Amy Brill

Amy Brill has in-depth expertise in analyzing the commercial potential of both existing products and emerging technologies, including market sizing, segmentation, supply chain, and buying processes. She has assessed markets for innovations in green building materials, advanced wireless communications, architectural glass, and components of medical diagnostics systems. She recently led a global effort to capture technical, operational and financial metrics on 44 of the world's largest and most stressed water utilities. In addition to her consulting work, Ms. Brill is currently leading Newry's marketing function and establishing best practices in knowledge management within the firm.

Before joining Newry, Ms. Brill was with the Management Consulting Services Group at Ernst & Young, Planning & Operations Division of Management Consulting Services Group, where she served clients on issues of market and financial analysis and industry and competitive analysis. She previously worked in Corporate Planning at Libbey Owens Ford.

Ms. Brill has an MBA in Finance and Decision Sciences from Miami University and a BS from The Ohio State University.

Marie Cotier

Marie Cotier has over 15 years experience in marketing, strategy development, and new product development. She has in-depth experience in assessing the commercial potential and performance of a broad range of emerging technologies, particularly in life sciences and medical applications. Ms. Cotier recently identified a broad range of applications for a novel collagen formulation and estimated their market potential and adoption timing. In addition, she identified the potential market and timing of diagnostic applications of an early stage laser technology. Ms. Cotier was formerly a program manager for a major manufacturer and has experience managing life science technology innovations into product lines that meet market needs.  Prior to working with specialty materials, Marie spent 5 years working with a major investment banking firm in Manhattan developing investment management products/services for high net worth individuals.

Ms. Cotier has a BS in Industrial Engineering from Union College and an MBA from Cornell University.

Bill Hitch

Bill Hitch has extensive expertise in developing technical and innovation workshops to assist Newry clients in learning quickly and efficiently about emerging technologies, and evaluating their potential as new business opportunities. He works with Newry clients to define workshop topics and agendas and recruits industry leaders and scientists to participate. Mr. Hitch has organized more than a dozen workshops on technical topics for Newry clients. He previously worked as a communications specialist for McKinsey & Company, where he planned and led numerous training programs and working sessions for clients and staff. Subsequently, as a consultant for IBM Global Services, he organized and led numerous focus groups and sessions to identify customer business requirements, typically involving 10 to 25 client staff or customers. He also worked as a consultant in the manufacturing practice of EDS Management Consulting Services and as an associate in the Corporate Strategic Planning at Key Corp.

Mr. Hitch has a BA and MA in English from John Carroll University, and an MBA in Finance from Cleveland State University.

Nick Krupansky

Nick Krupansky is a nuclear engineer with extensive experience addressing radiation-related technical issues and cost-reduction opportunities. He joined Newry in June 2011. Before joining Newry, Mr. Krupansky was with Bechtel and worked at the U.S. Department of Energy's Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, where he collaborated with shipyards on cost reduction of radiation shielding for submarines, and provided operations support, field engineering, and process improvement.

Mr. Krupansky has a BSE cum laude in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences from the University of Michigan, with a minor concentration in Mathematics.

Emily McClusky

Emily McClusky brings keen analytical and research skills to build insight into competitive environments. She has addressed questions of global glass manufacturing capability, capacity, and investment, as well as the nature and extent of intellectual property. Ms. McClusky has served clients in advanced materials and specialized consumer hardware products. She has also conducted independent research in wireless communications.

Before joining Newry, Ms. McClusky was an attorney with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease, where she served clients in web marketing, electric utilities, and banking. She has a BA, magna cum laude, in Economics and Mathematics from Lake Forest College and a JD from Harvard Law School.

Nick McClusky

Nick McClusky assists consulting teams with specialized research requirements, including primary research and personal interviews, market forecasting and modeling, multi-platform and on-site research, and database and information management. In addition, Mr. McClusky helps manage intellectual capital and establish resources to maximize firm knowledge. In support of Newry's Knowledge Management effort, Mr. McClusky:

• Created the framework and methodology for post-project de-briefs
• Designed and implemented an online library of project information.
• Built an internal database of projects to assist with managing external contacts and internal scope and resource discussions for proposal writing.

Mr. McClusky earned a BA from Kenyon College.

Bruce Millman

Bruce Millman has a broad background in market strategy and economic analysis, with direct experience in marketing analysis, sales and customer service management, and competitive intelligence. Before joining Newry in 2011, he was a marketing analyst for American Greetings, where he worked with product managers to develop business strategy based on product line composition, pricing, and merchandising. Previously, Mr. Millman managed a high-volume sales and customer service team for McMaster-Carr, a global distributor of industrial supplies. He also worked as a competitive analyst at Progressive Insurance, conducting pricing analysis based on actuarial techniques and providing actionable competitor information to improve pricing and marketing decisions.

Mr. Millman has a Master of Engineering in Operations Research and Finance and a BS in Economics and Business from Cornell University.

Mark Spatz

Mark Spatz comes to us from McKinsey and Company, where he served clients on issues of strategy, capital productivity, and operations. He has 25 years of diverse business experience, principally in advanced materials and operations in the aerospace and aviation industries. His work at Newry continues to focus on advanced materials, including market assessments for novel high-performance materials in architectural and automotive applications. Prior to McKinsey and Company (and his MBA), he founded Air Cargo Express, which he operated for 10 years and built into a $7 million on-demand jet freight service company.

Mr. Spatz has a BS in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from MIT, and an MBA and Master of Engineering Management from Northwestern University. He is also an airline pilot with 10,000 hours of flight time, who has instructed over 150 pilots.

Matt Szugye

Matt Szugye brings an excellent technical background to his evaluations of potential markets for innovative materials (e.g., advanced ceramic compositions) and energy technologies (products associated with the smart grid, including advanced sensors, measurement and control technologies, networking and communications equipment, and energy storage devices; energy-efficient hot water heaters; and a novel chemical processing technology).

Before joining Newry, he founded Cleveland's Fresh Fork Market, a virtual farmer's market that connects local growers with restaurants and consumers. He also interned at GE Lighting, Fluorescent Ballast Design Co-Op.

Mr. Szugye has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, with minor concentrations in Finance and Economics.

Alison Wang

Alison Wang's background and education in international business has facilitated her evaluations of global markets for emerging technologies (e.g., e-readers, ultracapacitors for nonautomotive applications) and advanced materials (e.g., organic semiconductors, specialty graphite). Alison has also assisted a diversified manufacturer in defining an acquisition platform by identifying the products and companies to be included in the platform and analyzing their fit with the client's acquisition criteria.

Alison interned with Newry as a business analyst specializing in the Chinese market. As a student in China, she interned as a market analyst for McKinsey & Company in Beijing and as a business development specialist for KeyLogic Consulting in Beijing.

Ms. Wang has an MS in Finance from Case Western and a BA in Public Administration from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing.

Dan Weiss

Jo Jones

Jo Jones, Newry's Office Administrator, runs the administrative side of the firm and serves as personal assistant to President Mark McClusky. Her responsibilities include managing travel itineraries/meetings for the President, scheduling client workshops, managing day-to-day office responsibilities, and planning and coordinating special events. Ms. Jones has been with Newry since 2001, and her role has steadily expanded as the firm has grown.

Ms. Jones joined Newry with more than 20 years experience in administration and customer service, with substantial work in the consulting, telecommunications, and publishing industries.

Katrina Lallo

Katrina Lallo, Newry's Administrative Assistant, supports Newry staff with time and expense reporting, travel, logistics, wellness program planning and coordination, and many other forms of assistance; she also welcomes visitors to our Cleveland office.

Before joining Newry in 2008, Ms. Lallo worked as a salesperson for Ryan Homes, a staffing manager for OfficeTeam, and an executive assistant at FTN Midwest Securities/ Cleveland Research Company.  She interned at Channel 19 Cleveland and Fox Sports Net while at Baldwin-Wallace College and has an FCC license. She has also served as a student teacher in eighth grade science and seventh grade language arts/ social studies. In addition, Ms. Lallo has coached track and field for four seasons at Olmsted Falls High School.

Ms. Lallo has a BA, magna cum laude, in Broadcasting and Business Management and Organization from Baldwin-Wallace College and an Ohio Middle Childhood teaching license from Notre Dame College.

Matt McClusky has extensive experience in designing and implementing customized online survey instruments for market research and interpreting their results. He has assisted numerous Newry clients in assessing the attitudes of actual and potential customers toward a broad range of products and features. In addition to participating on consulting teams, he provides comprehensive system and user support to Newry.

Before joining Newry, Mr. McClusky was a Senior Market Research Analyst with Guideline Inc., where he designed and implemented market research instruments and managed large and complex data sets. Previously, he worked with Microsoft Corporation in their Teach Net Seminars. In addition, Mr. McClusky founded Mat-Technology, a firm providing comprehensive services in custom market research and web-based surveys.

Mr. McClusky has expertise in numerous survey research tools: Confirmit, Web Surveyor, Survey Monkey, CATI, Remark, SPSS, STATA, and Wincross. He is proficient in JavaScript, PHP, Java, HTML, CSS, C#, VB, VB.Net, J#, SQL, ASP.Net, and ML. He has also worked with C++, C, XML, and x86-Assembly. He has a BA in Computer Science and Economics from Lake Forest University and is a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the national economics honor society.
